Powertron's DC Power Pack is a self-contained AC-to-DC power and battery-backup unit built for control panels, railway and metro coaches, defence platforms, and telecom sites that cannot tolerate a break in DC supply. Available from 12VDC to 220VDC with power ratings and backup time customised to the load, it is engineered as a drop-in replacement for ageing linear supplies and separate charger/battery combinations. This page covers features, specifications, model options, and how to select the right unit for your application.
A DC Power Pack combines a rectifier/converter stage, a battery charger stage, and a battery bank inside one enclosure, so the load always sees regulated DC — whether mains is present or not. Under normal conditions, incoming AC is converted to the set DC voltage and simultaneously used to float-charge the backup battery, keeping it at full capacity without overcharging it.
If the AC supply fails, an automatic changeover circuit transfers the load to the battery within the unit's rated changeover time, with no operator intervention and no external transfer switch. Once mains returns, the unit reverts to AC-derived DC and resumes charging the battery, ready for the next interruption. Soft-start circuitry limits inrush current at power-up, and the built-in protection stages (short circuit, overload, overvoltage) isolate faults before they reach the connected load — which is what allows a DC Power Pack to sit directly in front of safety-relevant equipment like signalling or control circuits.
| Industry | Application | Load / Duty Character | Recommended Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Railway & Metro | Coach control and signalling auxiliary DC supply | Continuous, vibration-exposed | 48VDC / 110VDC pack with extended backup |
| Defence | Field and platform control power | Continuous, ruggedised | 24VDC / 48VDC, custom enclosure |
| Telecom & Data Centre | Auxiliary DC for cabinet electronics | Continuous, N+1 preferred | 48VDC with VRLA/Li backup |
| Automotive & Test | Vehicle and bench test power | Intermittent to continuous | 12VDC / 24VDC, custom current |
| Semiconductor & Electronics Mfg | Process line control power | Continuous, clean supply | 24VDC / 48VDC, low ripple |
| Automation & Control Panels | PLC and I/O backup power | Continuous | 24VDC, compact panel-mount |
| Criteria | DC Power Pack | Separate Charger + Battery |
|---|---|---|
| Panel footprint | Single enclosure | Charger and battery bank occupy separate space |
| Changeover on mains fail | Automatic, built-in | Needs an external ATS or manual action |
| Wiring & commissioning | Pre-integrated, fewer interconnections | More cabling, more failure points |
| Battery maintenance | Managed by inbuilt charger logic | Depends on a separately specified charger |
| Protection coordination | Engineered as one system | Must be coordinated across two vendors |
| Custom voltage/backup | Built to spec (12–220VDC) | Limited by off-the-shelf charger ranges |
| Single point of accountability | One manufacturer, one warranty | Split responsibility if a fault occurs |
Every DC Power Pack is built at Powertron India's own manufacturing facility in Wagle Estate, MIDC, Thane (Maharashtra), where design, winding, assembly, and testing are carried out in-house rather than outsourced. Units go through a documented quality process before dispatch, and Powertron holds ISO, CE, BIS, and GeM empanelment credentials, with manufacturing recognised under the Make in India and MSME programmes. Beyond Thane, Powertron supports customers through sales offices in Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu, and serves export markets through international sales offices in Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia. Post-installation, the same team that engineers the unit is available for commissioning support, spares, and after-sales service, so buyers are not left dealing with a reseller once the order ships
Standard offerings cover 12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC, 110VDC and 220VDC, with power rating and backup time built to your load rather than fixed at a catalogue value.
Yes — the changeover from AC-derived DC to battery backup is automatic, with no external transfer switch or manual intervention required.
Yes, Powertron's lithium (LFP) battery range is designed to pair with the DC Power Pack where longer cycle life or reduced weight matters.
Short circuit, overload and overvoltage protection are standard, so the unit isolates faults rather than passing them to the connected load.
Yes, this is one of its primary use cases; units can be built to the vibration, temperature and mounting requirements typical of rolling stock specifications.
Backup time is engineered against your stated load current and required outage duration — share both figures with your enquiry for an accurate quotation.
Yes, ingress protection and enclosure construction can be adjusted for outdoor, dusty, or vibration-heavy installations.
Lead time depends on voltage, power rating, battery chemistry and any custom enclosure work — contact the sales team with your specification for a project-specific timeline.
Yes, Powertron exports through international sales offices in Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia in addition to serving the Indian market.
Output voltage, load current, required backup time, AC input conditions at site, and any environmental or certification requirements — the Selection Checklist above covers the full list.
